Niagara University recently announced additional 2014 dates for its Firefighter/EMS Disability Awareness Training program. The two-day (12-hour) Train–the-Trainer class is free of charge but pre-registration is required. These classes are for firefighters and EMS personnel who intend to train other firefighters and EMS personnel later in 2014.
The Firefighter/EMS Disability Awareness Training program was developed to provide all responders, including firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, and 911 dispatchers, with the awareness and knowledge necessary to help them better interact and serve individuals with both physical and cognitive disabilities. The training sensitizes and educates emergency responders on how to effectively identify, address, and respond to various disabilities they will encounter in the line of duty.
The Firefighter/EMS Disability Awareness Training program was developed with grant funding from the New York State Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities. It is the first comprehensive training of its type in the nation.
