Thursday, June 12: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. @ Showroom
Open to all attendees
Division Chief Eddie Buchanan, Hanover (VA) Fire & EMS, will present "Surviving the Tactical Renaissance" during the Annual Conference General Session. Advances in fire dynamics research have brought new insight into the way we fight fire and provide information that can save firefighters’ lives on the fireground. This creates an unprecedented opportunity for leadership in moving our organizations forward to become a fire service where everyone goes home. But these initiatives are not without opposition. Chief Eddie Buchanan will review the challenges that are ahead for fire service leaders and methods for moving our industry forward. Eddie Buchanan began his fire service career in 1982 and is a division chief with Hanover Fire & EMS in Richmond, Va. He is past president of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors and serves on the executive editorial advisory board for Fire Engineering and FDIC. Buchanan is the author of the Volunteer Training Officers Handbook and serves on the NFPA Technical Committee on Fire Services Training. His department is credited with developing the SLICERS method used to implement fire dynamics research on the fireground.
