2014 NYSAFC Scholarship Recipients Announced

NYSAFC is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards. The association’s scholarship program is offered to enhance, through academic achievement at the college level, the quality of leadership in the fire and life safety field and to assist Active, Associate, and Affiliate association members (and their spouses and children) in their efforts to pursue academic advancement.
A "Ward A. & Janice R. Bohner Scholarship" award in the amount of $1,500 was presented to Tyler Holmes of the North Bethlehem Fire Department and an award for $750 was presented to Angela Ward of the East Herkimer Fire Department. This scholarship, presented in memory of Executive Director Emeritus Ward Bohner and his wife Janice, is given to those students pursuing a general course of study in any field.
An "Anthony J. Messina Scholarship" award in the amount of $500 was presented to Benjamin Sobtzick of the West Webster Fire Department. This scholarship, presented in memory of Past President Andy Messina, is given to students pursuing an emergency services degree (e.g., fire science, EMS, or emergency management).
Special thanks to the Erie County Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Organization, Inc. for their many years of supporting the NYSAFC scholarship program fund. Award presentations are being made locally throughout the summer.
