Through its Regional Hands-On Training program, NYSAFC was able to bring flashover training to 14 counties across New York state over the course of 17 weekends. Just over 1,000 students participated in this critical training, which was conducted at sites in Broome, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Erie, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Orange, Oswego, Otsego, Rensselaer, Steuben, Sullivan, and Ulster counties.
Each program included an hour long lecture, followed by training evolutions in a flashover simulator with some of the nation’s most seasoned fire instructors. Students were able to experience fire development from the incipient stage all the way to flashover, learning to identify the signs of the event before becoming part of it.
Flashover training will be conducted at FIRE 2015, the NYSAFC 109th Annual Conference & Expo in Verona, N.Y. Regional training is scheduled to begin again in spring 2015.
