Chief Thomas Cain retired on July 15, 2016, after 32 years of service with the village of Scarsdale Fire Department. Cain has accepted a position in the private sector and due to this new commitment, he has also chosen to resign from the NYSAFC board of directors. Cain joined the board as a paid director in 2012.
At a meeting of the board on July 15, Cain’s resignation was accepted with sincere regret. President Joe Fahd noted, "Tom Cain will be sorely missed. He provided strong leadership and great insight as a member of our board." Among his many accomplishments as a director was starting and overseeing the successful NYSAFC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, which has been held for the past two years in conjunction with the Annual Conference and FIRE Expo to raise funds for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and FDNY Counseling Unit.
The board of directors anticipates filling the seat left vacant by Cain’s resignation at the next board meeting on September 16. The Career Chiefs Section met on July 20 and made a recommendation to the NYSAFC president as to who should fill this vacancy.
