New Locations Announced for Fireground Responsibilities of the Incident Commander Training

NYSAFC will be conducting eight additional sessions of the 16-hour Fireground Responsibilities of the Incident Commander training in early 2018. This training program is designed to assist fire departments in meeting the Best Practices for Incident Commanders as outlined by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control and referenced by the New York State Department of Labor Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau.
The program includes both lecture and discussion, along with class activities and case studies that allow students to apply the principles of fireground safety and supervision. Exercises include fire emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, water and flooding emergencies, train derailments, and other unique emergency response scenes.
To allow more individuals to attend, class size has been increased to 28 participants per site. This number will still allow for a high level of interaction with the instructor and other participants during the training scenarios. Similarly, in an effort to allow more departments to benefit from the program, any participating department is limited to a maximum of four attendees.

- February 10 & 11, 2018 – Erie County
- March 24 & 25, 2018 – Otsego County
