NYSAFC Tele-Town Hall on Sprinklers a Success

On April 16, 2018, NYSAFC hosted a tele-town hall on the topic of home fire sprinklers. Chief Billy Goldfeder, EFO, co-host of FirefighterCloseCalls.com – Home of the Secret List and currently deputy chief with the Loveland-Symmes (OH) Fire Department, joined NYSAFC Executive Director Jerry DeLuca to speak about the many issues surrounding the installation and use of home fire sprinklers, as well as code requirements.

During the 1-hour session, nearly 300 members of NYSAFC and other members of the fire service from across the country had the opportunity to ask questions and offer comments on the topic. Questions ranged from cost to preventing sprinklers from freezing to how to get greater buy-in for home fire sprinklers from the rank and file firefighter.

NYSAFC is continuing ongoing efforts to see that the next version of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building code maintains the IRC provisions on home fire sprinklers.

Members that previously provided the association with phone numbers were called to participate in this tele-town hall, but all members of the fire service were encouraged to phone in and join the conversation. This marks the first time that NYSAFC has hosted an event like this, and association officials were pleased with the level of participation. NYSAFC may look to use this technology for other discussions in the future.

NYSAFC would like to hear your thoughts on this program and welcomes input on other topics you think would be of interest to discuss in the tele-town hall format. If you have a proposal or comment, please email Executive Director Jerry DeLuca.
