Safety Committee to Review Ambulance Equipment
The New York State EMS Council’s Safety Committee plans a review of Parts 800.23 and 800.24 of New York Codes, Rules and Regulations covering required equipment for ambulances and emergency ambulance service vehicles (800.26). If you have any comments (like maybe getting rid of the required individually wrapped sanitary napkin and all those useless padded board splints), feel free to send your ideas to Safety Committee Chair Mark Philippy by email.
EMS Workforce Survey Results
The State EMS Council (SEMSCO) conducted an EMS Workforce Survey over the summer (2018), garnering some 906 responses. Respondents reported declining numbers of both volunteer and paid responders, particularly paramedics. The decline is delaying responses and causing scheduling difficulties across the state. The respondents’ outlook on the future is more bleak than optimistic. Survey results are available here. Questions on the survey can be directed to Steven Kroll by email.
