NYSAFC’s popular Firefighter Best Practices training series continues in the new year. Programs will be held on January 16 in Webster (Monroe County), January 30 in Pleasant Valley (Dutchess County), February 7 in Johnstown (Fulton County), February 19 in Canastota (Madison County), February 25 in Bath (Steuben County), March 2 in West Islip (Suffolk County), and April 11 in Keeseville (Essex County).

Two of these programs – in Madison and Essex Counties – were postponed in fall 2018 due to bad weather and have been rescheduled. Anyone registered for the programs that were canceled is automatically enrolled for the rescheduled date. NYSAFC is also accepting new registrations for both of these locations, as space permits.

While there is no cost to attend the training, pre-registration is required, and seats will be filled on a first-come basis. Classes are limited to 50 participants per site. More information about the training, as well as a registration form, can be found on the NYSAFC website.

The Firefighter Best Practices training is designed to help fire chiefs, officers, and commissioners assure that their department properly addresses the Recommended Best Practices for Fire Department Training Programs guidance document that was issued by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control in conjunction with the New York State Department of Labor’s Public Employees Safety and Health (PESH) Program in January 2015.

The 2.5-hour training program is funded through a grant from PERMA, which is also providing each participant with a USB storage drive pre-loaded with reference materials and resources that will help them, and their departments, meet the best practices recommendations.

Please contact NYSAFC Grants Administrator Sue Syzdek by email or (800)-676-FIRE for more information.
