New DOH Policy Statements Posted
The Bureau of EMS has issued four new policy statements. The first (24-05) is an updated protocol change log to reflect some items that were inadvertently left off the change log issued earlier this year, such as the concentration of norepinephrine. Another addresses requirements for EMS certification and issuance of certification cards. The third addresses the national sunset of practical skills exams and processes for eliminating these in New York state courses. The final (24-08) is a change log for all of the recently promulgated EMS education regulations. All are available for download here.
National Registry Press Release on New York Adoption of NREMT Exams
The recently issued revisions to New York state EMS education regulations (learn more here) now allow graduates from DOH-approved CFR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic courses to take either the NYS exam or the National Registry exam to obtain DOH certification. This makes New York the 50th and final state to approve the NREMT exams for state certification. While there is no requirement for New York state students to take the NREMT exam, this opens the door for New York providers to obtain reciprocity across the nation without the need to take both a state and national exam. See the press release from the National Registry here.
