On behalf of the leadership of America's fire service, the IAFC reaffirms its support for the efforts of the Public Safety Alliance and its allies in Congress to pass legislation to allocate the D Block of the communication spectrum to public safety. This effort is key to the development of a nationwide public safety wireless broadband network.
"The D Block is the critical building block in creating a nationwide public safety communications network," said Chief Jeff Johnson, IAFC president 2009-2010. "Without this critical spectrum, public safety's mission-critical communications will remain disjointed and inadequate."
The IAFC is issuing this statement to ensure clarity of its continued position on behalf of the needs of public safety in light of this afternoon’s events hosted by the former 4G coalition, opponents of allocating the needed spectrum to public safety who have rebranded themselves as Connect Public Safety Now.
