NYSAFC Fall 2011 Seminar Series
"Firefighter Safety & Survival: Recognize & Survive"
with Lieutenant Tim Klett, FDNY
This program will provide an in-depth look at the events leading up to any firefighter’s worst nightmare, a line of duty death. In this day of FAST or RIT teams, getting out alive or saving our own training, and new personal safety systems, there is really no true awareness training. Everything being taught is reactionary for when we get ourselves into trouble. Students will learn the warning signs or red flags that should alert everyone to a developing problem. The program will review several line of duty deaths and call attention to several warning signs that went unnoticed. Students will examine the transmission of "maydays" and "urgents" and the information that should accompany each. Our best survival training is awareness and our ability to react to the signs of a changing fire situation; it is time to "recognize and survive." Company Officers Leadership Training (COLT)
Where do chiefs that recognize the need for leadership development send their officers for that type of training? NYSAFC’s COLT program. The demands on today’s fire officers are constantly increasing. Traditional training is not enough for today’s fire service leader of all ranks. NYSAFC recognizes that leadership development is necessary now if we are to protect the future of the fire service. It is also crucial for chief officers to support those individuals performing the day-to-day operations of the fire department, as sharpening the leadership skills of your line officers will enhance the overall strength of your team. For each COLT program, NYSAFC assembles a cadre of instructors, all nationally renowned experts on company officer leadership both on and off the fireground, for an energizing learning experience. Emergency Services Leadership Symposium
Now Featuring Tactical Hands-On Training!
In today’s turbulent emergency services field, leadership is more important than ever. That’s why NYSAFC is pleased to offer its annual Emergency Services Leadership Symposium, now featuring Tactical Hands-on Training. There are many programs available on fire service strategies and tactics, but few opportunities for the advancement of leaders on and off the emergency scene. NYSAFC brings together some of the best minds in leadership development for this weekend program that will help even the most seasoned veterans reestablish their vision and focus in these difficult times. Classroom sessions will provide you with the tools and support to begin thinking strategically for your organization, while emphasizing your professional development and personal growth. In 2011, NYSAFC added a new Tactical Hands-on component to the symposium, "Battle Ready Company Officers." For further information about this program and/or to register, click here.
