Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association’s Old Timers Dinner

The Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association (RCFCA) held its annual Old Timers Dinner on March 31, 2012 at the Sloatsburg Fire Department, home department of RCFCA Past President Anthony Massaro. 195 fire service personnel and guests were in attendance for the dinner and ceremony.
The Rockland County Fire Chiefs presented various awards to county personnel to honor active and past service to the organization.
The Chief’s Award, which recognizes participation in the fire chiefs association, for attending meetings, being active in association committees, and for help in bettering the association, was awarded to George Zayas, West Haverstraw Fire Department. Zayas is a member of NYSAFC’s Special Operations Committee and is a Hands-On Training instructor for the State Chiefs.
Other award winners included:
• Charles M. "Smokey" Fales Award: Thomas "Farmer" Alworth, Nyack Fire Department, Orangetown Engine
• Jerome Trachtenberg Service Award: Stuart Gates, Stony Point Fire Department
• Andrew A. Fredericks Memorial Instructor of the Year Award: Frank Jewett, Nyack Fire Department, Highland Hose and Rockland County Fire Training Center
• William Harris Jr. Award: Sheryl Rose, Rockland County Fire Training Center
• Past Presidents Award: Anthony Massaro, Sloatsburg Fire Department
One of the highlights of the night was when NYSAFC President Skip Sylvester (pictured, at left) presented RCFCA President Harold Straut (past chief, Nanuet Fire Department) with a plaque in recognition of the organization’s 60 years of dedicated service to the chiefs, officers, and fire service personnel of Rockland County. Congratulations to all award winners!
