Acting State Fire Administrator Appointed
On July 21, 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Elizabeth Glazer announced the appointment of Deputy State Fire Administrator John Mueller to the position of acting state fire administrator. This is not the first time that Mueller has provided leadership within the Office of Fire Prevention and Control, but seldom has it been as important.
During the 2010 reorganization of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), the Office of Fire Prevention and Control was moved to DHSES and the state fire administrator’s position became a direct appointee of the governor. The intention was to give greater authority to the position. Also, several roles and policy decisions were removed from the secretary of state and given to the state fire administrator. These duties need to be fulfilled and the appointment of an acting state fire administrator will help ensure the state’s fire prevention efforts continue.
The entire board of NYSAFC wishes Chief Mueller the best and looks forward to continuing to work with him.
