More than 60 students attended Company Officers Leadership Training (COLT) recently in White Plains, N.Y. For those who missed the event, there's another chance to attend COLT in the spring. A second COLT program will be held April 12-13, 2013, at the Marriott Rochester Airport in Rochester, N.Y.
NYSAFC’s COLT program provides a unique opportunity for line officers to hone their leadership skills on and off the fireground, which will enhance the overall strength of the fire department team.
The COLT program begins on Friday with a lecture from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. entitled, "From the Fire House to the Fireground: What You Need to Know" with Lieutenant Tim Klett, Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) and Chief Mike Lombardo, Buffalo Fire Department.
Tim Klett is a 30-year veteran of the fire service and joined the FDNY in 1990. He currently works in the Bronx, assigned to Engine Co. 88 in the 7th Division. Mike Lombardo is a 36-year veteran of the fire service and was the commissioner/chief of department of the Buffalo Fire Department from 2006-2010.
COLT continues on Saturday from 8:30 - 2:30 p.m. with a presentation by Retired Battalion Chief Mark Emery, Woodinville (WA) Fire & Rescue entitled "Fire Station Leadership – Essentials That Will Transform Your Fire Station and Your Life."
