The New York State Bureau of EMS has issued a revised funding policy statement, #13-03.
Key changes include the restoration of a requirement that vouchers be submitted within 18 months of course completion (this was accidentally deleted from an earlier policy revision). Additionally, course sponsors can now charge tuition for all course levels except for CFR and EMT. This means that sponsors can get New York state reimbursement and charge tuition for all ALS courses, just as the paramedic original courses have been doing for many years. This is anticipated to increase the number of available courses as limited New York state funding in concert with a prohibition against charging tuition to make up the shortfall in expenses has caused many course sponsors to drop EMT-CC and EMT-I original and refresher courses.
The policy statement will eventually be posted on the
DOH website.
