Niagara University First Responder Disability Awareness Training

Niagara University recently announced new 2013-1014 dates for its upcoming First Responder Disability Awareness Trainings. The trainings, which include both a two-day (12-hour) Train–the-Trainer class and a one-day (7-hour) Town Hall Training, are free of charge but pre-registration is required.

The First Responder Disability Awareness Training was developed to provide all responders, including firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement and 911 dispatchers, with the awareness and knowledge necessary to help them better interact and serve individuals with both physical and cognitive disabilities. The trainings are specific to each profession, with the fire service and EMS provider training covering the topics that are the most relevant to the situations they may face when dealing with an individual with a disability.

The First Responder Disability Awareness Training was developed with grant funding from the New York State Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities. It is the first comprehensive training of its type in the nation.

More information about the training content, as well as dates for both training types, can be found here.
