2016-2017 NYSAFC Officer Candidates Announced

The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Nominations & Elections Committee announces the following slate of candidates and voting guidelines.

2016-2017 Proposed Candidates

President: 1-Year Term
Chief Joseph M. Fahd Jr. – Cohoes Fire Department

1st Vice President: 1-Year Term
Chief John P. Sroka – Defreestville Fire Department

2nd Vice President: 1-Year Term
Chief Julius J. Leone Jr. – Fredonia Fire Department

Director – Paid: 3-Year Term
Chief James W. Harrington – Gates Fire District

Directors – Volunteer: 3-Year Term
Chief Lee Shurtleff – Groton Fire Department
Chief Anthony V. LaFerrera – North Babylon Volunteer Fire Co., Inc.

Interviews were conducted to fill a vacated Director – Volunteer seat (3-year term). The interviewees were Past Chief Barbara McCann of the Nedrow Fire Department and Past Chief James Hare of the Hilton Fire Department. It is the recommendation of the committee, due to finding both Chief McCann and Chief Hare qualified for the position of volunteer director, to hold an election at the Annual Conference between the two candidates.

NYSAFC Voting Guidelines

Voting for the NYSAFC election will be held during the 110th Annual Conference at the Turning Stone Resort, Verona, NY on Friday, June 17, 2016, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the Briar Room. You must be an Active Member (dues paid 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting), have joined the association 90 days prior to the Annual Meeting, and have government photo identification with you in order to vote in the election and on association matters.
