Fred W. Singer Fire Educator of the Year Award Presented
The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) is pleased to announce the 2018 recipient of its Chief Fred W. Singer Fire Educator of the Year Award, Training Deputy Fire Coordinator James McCann of the Orange County Division of Fire Services.
The award was presented on June 14, 2018, during the association’s 112th Annual Conference & FIRE 2018 Expo at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY.
One of the primary missions of NYSAFC is to provide education for fire chiefs, officers, and firefighters throughout New York state. NYSAFC’s Chief Fred W. Singer Fire Educator of the Year Award is presented annually to recognize an association member for outstanding effort in fire service instruction in the Empire State. The award is bestowed in memory of NYSAFC Past President Fred W. Singer, a highly regarded teacher and champion of fire safety and firefighter training.
James McCann began his fire service career in 1981 with the Salisbury Mills Fire Department. He served as chief from 1993-1996, president from 2000-2001, and is currently the district treasurer and an active member. McCann has served as a New York state fire instructor and Orange County fire instructor. He has worked at the Orange County Fire Training Center since 2002 and has served as manager and deputy fire coordinator in charge of training for 14 years.
McCann is well known for his ability to connect with students, great passion and enthusiasm for fire service training and education, diligence, and knowledge. His tireless efforts in providing effective and relevant training to the firefighters of Orange County have had a dramatic impact on the level of training and the delivery of fire and emergency services within the community.
