NYS DOH Issues Interim Educational Policy
On August 21, the Bureau of EMS issued Policy Statement #20-07 with Interim Guidance for EMS Education Courses. This policy statement outlines guidelines for continuation of EMS certification programs, as well as CME recertification. It also provides a summary of actions taken to extend and renew current and past EMS certifications. The policy is posted on the Bureau website here.
EMS Fatigue Project Continues
The National Association of State EMS Officials is in the second phase of a project with the University of Pittsburgh to develop fatigue guidelines for EMS (learn more here). During Phase 2, research experiments are helping to determine what strategies actually help to reduce EMS worker fatigue. One interesting read from the project talks about the effect of fatigue training on reducing fatigue in EMS workers.
