Frank P. Stefanelli, retired chief of the City of Jamestown Fire Department, passed away on June 4, 2021. He led the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs as president from 1986-1987. Stefanelli was fire chief in Jamestown from 1970-1980 and later served as deputy state fire administrator with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control from 1989-1995. He was also a longtime state fire instructor in Chautauqua County.

Stefano Napolitano’s four years as fire chief will come to an end in mid-July.
 
Chief Thomas Richardson was sworn in on June 24, along with John Hodgens, who was promoted to chief of fire operations.
 
The department was awarded the Seal of Excellence Award from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which is presented to agencies demonstrating a firm commitment to the "16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives." There have been only 22 recipients in the U.S. since the award’s inception in 2004.

When the coronavirus was rapidly spreading across the U.S., paramedics on the frontlines in NYC responded to more than 7,000 calls a day. The calls kept coming, and EMTs kept answering.
 
There are a little more than 1,800 volunteer fire departments across New York state, and as the calls for service rise, the number of men and women responding is on the decline.
 
Chief Arthur Hunsinger will serve on the New York State Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention Task Force. Hunsinger is chairman of NYSAFC's Public Relations & Information Committee.

The eighth annual GRIT (Getzville Rapid Intervention Training) training weekend was held on May 15-16, 2021, in Amherst, NY (Erie County).
 
The retired historic FDNY boat will be moored at Pier 25 until October for public tours.
 
It's not the oldest fire station in the department but it is one of the most spectacular.
 
Robert Francis Whelan is nearing retirement after years of applying the traditional gold leaf that's long decorated fire trucks.
