Chief James R. Comstock of the Henrietta Fire District (Monroe County) took office as president of NYSAFC on June 18, 2022, during the association’s 116th Annual Conference & FIRE 2022 Expo in Syracuse, NY. Congratulations to the new NYSAFC officers.

NYSAFC has once again partnered with PERMA to deliver free “Fire/EMS Behavioral Health: The Price We Pay” workshops in the fall. Past Chiefs Mike Healy and Jared Meeker will deliver classes in 10 locations later this year. There will be no fee to attend, but students must pre-register. On-site registration will be accepted if space permits. Registration will open later this summer.

Chief/Commissioner Michael Lombardo (Buffalo Fire Department) will present “The Five Points of Command” in the following counties: Albany (October 24), Chautauqua (October 26), Chemung (November 17), Fulton (September 7), Genesee (September 19), Jefferson (September 8), Onondaga (October 4), Otsego (October 3), Rockland (October 5), Schenectady (November 15), and Suffolk (November 2).
 
 
   
NYSAFC Regional Hands-On Training returns in the fall! "Beyond the Basics," "Fire Behavior On the Inside," and "Flashover" courses are all scheduled for sites across New York state. County agencies or fire departments interested in hosting training can submit the Host Request Forms found on the NYSAFC website under the “Documents” menu. Courses are now being booked in 2023.

The department has seen much growth since 1922, only doing a few fire calls a year back then. Today, they respond to more than 200 calls yearly.
