Chief James E. Hare of the Hilton Fire Department (Monroe County) passed away on August 3, 2024. A 50-year veteran of the fire service, Hare led his department as chief from 1996-1998. He was a 41-year member of NYSAFC, a former longtime member of the Annual Conference Committee, and an active member of the board of directors since 2016. Hare assumed the office of 2nd vice president during the 118th Annual Conference & FIRE 2024 Expo in June.

Lieutenant Mike Scotto (FDNY) will present “Searching – The Offensive and Defensive” in the following counties: Cortland (October 22), Erie (September 18), Fulton (September 10), Jefferson (October 1), Monroe (November 5), Oneida (October 23), Otsego (September 25), Rensselaer (October 29), and St. Lawrence (September 4). Registration is $35 (NYSAFC Individual and Department Members) and $50 (non-members) per person. Pre-register or sign up at the door! The seminar begins at 7:00 p.m. at all sites.

Supervising Fire Marshal George Snyder suffered a cardiac episode after working on Friday, August 9, 2024. He died Saturday, August 10.
 
The Dewittville, Hartfield, and Mayville Fire Departments will become the North Lake Fire District effective September 3.
 
Firefighters battled heavy rains to get people to safety – all while their own firehouse was flooded.
 
When Pamelia’s firefighters returned from helping pump water out of people’s basements after recent storms, volunteers found their own station in distress.
