Kiewit's President and CEO Donates to Colorado School of Mines

President and Chief Executive Officer of Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. Bruce Grewcock has contributed $5 million to Colorado School of Mines to support the university’s Center for Underground Construction and Tunneling and to provide scholarships for undergraduate students. Grewcock, a 1976 Mines alumnus, provided $4.5 million in funding for the university’s underground construction and tunneling education and research programs – including $3.5 million in faculty support and $1 million in additional startup funds – and $500,000 to augment a scholarship program for undergraduate students.

"Colorado School of Mines equipped me with the technical expertise and training that our industry demands," said Grewcock. "Mines continues to be an international leader in mining, geotechnical and engineering expertise, and as such, is uniquely positioned to serve this critical industry need. The Underground Construction and Tunneling Center at Mines will serve as a valuable training and research resource."

Grewcock’s experience at the helm of Kiewit has brought him to the forefront of the field, where he has experienced both the need for dedicated, university-level training of future industry professionals and the industry-wide benefits of sponsored research collaborations. "Underground infrastructure is being built in increasingly complex geologic environments, so the demand for highly skilled professionals is growing," said Grewcock. "Through partnerships with educational institutions like Mines, we can meet the demands of our growing industry."

In addition to the support provided for the underground construction and tunneling program, Grewcock’s gift will also bolster scholarships for undergraduate Nebraskan students pursuing any area of study at the university renowned for its expertise in earth, energy and the environment.
