Brasfield & Gorrie Completes Phase One of Medical Center ExpansionPrint this Article | Send to Colleague Brasfield & Gorrie recently completed phase one of Princeton Baptist Medical Center’s east expansion project in Birmingham Ala. With an anticipated completion date of May 2013, the three-phase construction project includes a 100,000-sq-ft expansion along with 60,000 sq ft of improvements to the original structure—its first expansion in more than 15 years. Phase two is expected to be complete later this year. Phase one of the project includes 16 new operating rooms to replace the current one, which are nearly three decades old, and introduces the hospital’s first hybrid operating room—a recent innovation for healthcare facilities. The new hybrid operating room technology provides solutions to save critical time and keep cardiovascular, orthopedic spine, neurosurgical, and vascular procedures minimally invasive. Space for a second hybrid operating room has been included for future expansion. For this reason, the project has attracted interest from many healthcare experts across the nation. In addition, the hospital addition includes a new Gastrointestinal (GI) department, six GI procedure rooms, a new central instrument processing department for the entire hospital, a chapel and conference center, patient and visitor lobbies, and waiting rooms. "Princeton Baptist has always been the backbone of our community, "said Betsy Postlethwait, President of Princeton Baptist Medical Center. "These necessary renovations will help better our community’s patient care with innovative technology and best-of-class facilities." The $39.9 million expansion also includes a new two-story building that can allow for another four floors to be added if future expansion is necessary. Brasfield & Gorrie is ranked as the number two healthcare general contractor in the nation by Modern Healthcare. |
