Sundt Construction-Stacy and Witbeck Joint Venture Chosen to Extend Valley Metro Light Rail Line

Sundt/Stacy and Witbeck (SSWJV), a joint venture of Sundt Construction, Inc. and Stacy and Witbeck, is proceeding on construction of  a 3.2-mile extension of Valley Metro’s existing light rail facilities that will include three stations and serve approximately 5,000 passengers per day. Both Sundt and Stacy and Witbeck are AGC members in multiple locations.

 

During the first 18 months of the Northwest Extension project, the team will perform extensive utility relocations and removals throughout the transportation corridor, which runs north from the current end of the line at Montebello Avenue to Dunlap Avenue in Phoenix. Water, storm, sewer, gas, private irrigation, power, telephone and cable are being replaced, followed by the road and track phases, which will include adding new curb, gutter, sidewalk, driveways and 3.2 miles of double track. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2016.

From 2004 through 2008, SSWJV built more than half of the original 20-mile starter section of the light rail line from Phoenix to Mesa, Ariz. The joint venture also built the system’s maintenance and operations facility in Phoenix.
