Sundt Construction, Inc., a member of multiple AGC chapters, recently completed a new courthouse in Porterville, one of the first in California equipped with a sophisticated audiovisual (AV) system allowing off-site monitoring via a statewide communication network.

The new South County Justice Center for the Superior Court of Tulare County features a design focusing on simple-to-use, network-enabled systems requiring minimal support and maintenance. With two separate systems, one for non-detention level spaces and one for the Sheriff Department’s detention areas, the 96,000-sq-ft facility utilizes cameras and touch screens to provide enhanced security throughout the complex.

The justice center project, which was administered by the California Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), is comprised of nine courtrooms, judges’ chambers, jury deliberation rooms, support services, clerks’ offices and work areas, and public walk-up windows and queuing. A detainee holding area and sallyport complete the amenities.

The $93 million courthouse built by Sundt Construction was designed by CO Architects to achieve a LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Courthouse construction began in February 2012 and was completed in November 2013.

Sundt Construction, Inc. is one of the country’s largest and most respected general contractors. Known nationally for its innovative approach to construction services, the firm is currently ranked the 64th largest construction company in the United States by ENR. The company is also ranked 22nd on ENR's list of Top Contractors in California. www.sundt.com
