Shapiro & Duncan, Inc., an AGC of Metropolitan Washington D.C. member dedicated to providing cutting-edge mechanical solutions, announced recently that its first housing construction project with D.C.-based Cardozo Senior High School students is complete.
"The DC Student Build House is a marvelous innovative idea. It allows young people a taste of the construction industry giving them an insight into a possible lifelong career. Our industry is challenging and at the same time extremely rewarding, but it's not for everyone and getting this practical experience before making a lifelong commitment is an excellent idea," said Shapiro & Duncan, Inc.'s Project Manager, Don Spinnler.
Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the first house built by the students of the Academy of Construction and Design on Dec. 6, 2012. The house is located at 5734 13th Street NW Washington, DC.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony attracted a large crowd of supporters including Foundation board members; D.C. Schools system officials; sponsoring and volunteering company representatives; many tradesmen who worked with the students completing the house; Academy staff, teachers and students; the media and many neighbors and passersby. The three-story house has three bedrooms and twp full baths. It will soon be on the real estate market, and all proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into the program for the purchase of the next lot, and construction of the next house.
