AGC Celebrates America Recycles Day

Today, Nov. 15, is America Recycles Day and AGC of America is celebrating with its first-ever month-long hard hat recycling challenge for AGC members across the country. Throughout the month of November, AGC chapters and members are pledging to retire and recycle old hard hats. This new initiative blends AGC’s commitments to worker safety and the environment - hard hats can fade, turn brittle and compromise workers’ safety so we’re encouraging our members to see just how many hard hats they can recycle this month. AGC announced the program in October and provided easy steps to help construction firms, AGC chapters and other student organizations participate. Pepper Construction (Barrington, Ill.) anticipates recycling over 200 hard hats. AGC chapters like the Central Texas Chapter are also lending a hand to the recycling effort and have put in place a month-long hard hat recycling drive, while construction students at the University of Arizona plan to recycle over 50 hard hats today. All those involved are encouraged to document their efforts and at month’s end, AGC plans to release a full account of these efforts from across the country . And it’s not too late to join this great initiative - if you’re interested in taking the challenge, send an email to AGC’s Melinda Tomaino at tomainom@agc.org for more information.
