Brasfield & Gorrie to Build New Huntsville Water Treatment Plant
Brasfield & Gorrie, an Alabama AGC member, recently announced that the company has been selected to build a new greenfield water treatment plant for Huntsville Utilities in Huntsville, Alabama.
Awarded the $83 million project through a competitive bidding process, Brasfield & Gorrie began work on the new Southeast Water Treatment Plant in March 2015.
"As one of the nation’s leading contractors in heavy civil construction, we look forward to building this project, which will expand Huntsville Utilities’ water supply and relieve pressure from its two existing plants," said Brasfield & Gorrie Regional President Brian Barr.
Located on a 266-acre site near the intersection of Highway 431 and Guntersville Dam Road, the facility is expected to treat 12 million gallons of drinking water per day. The scope of the project includes a raw water intake structure, 42-inch raw water main pipelines, a conventional settling water treatment plant and a 48-inch finished water main pipeline, all of which will be completed in March 2018.
With a strong portfolio of water and wastewater treatment facilities, Brasfield & Gorrie’s selection for this project reflects its track record of success in heavy civil construction and underscores the company’s growing presence in the Huntsville area. Not far from the Huntsville Utilities site, Brasfield & Gorrie is currently constructing two test stands for components of the SLS rocket under development by NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center.
