On Feb. 10, the Trump administration released its fiscal year (FY) 2021 budget request that includes an outline for a $1 trillion infrastructure proposal. The proposal is centered around two main components: 1) an $810 billion, 10-year reauthorization of surface transportation programs and 2) a new $190 billion investment across a variety of infrastructure categories, including water, broadband, and additional transportation programs such as bridge and transit repair. Review of the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act for short, finds the measure’s provisions would be more harmful to union contractors and workers than to open shop firms
Union construction contractors and their workers will be disproportionately hurt by proposed legislation known as the PRO Act, according to the findings of a new analysis released recently by AGC of America. The analysis concluded that the legislation would harm the entire construction industry. Moreover, the analysis detailed how the measure would make it more likely for union firms to be picketed and their teams from being allowed to work, undermine area-wide collective bargaining, and expose union construction firm directors and officers to civil penalties.

Women comprise 9.9 percent of the construction industry workforce, with an even smaller number of women on the front lines — an estimated 1 percent. With women making up 47 percent of all employed individuals, this means that the construction industry is only benefitting from about 1.5 percent of the total female workforce.

The AGC Lean for Trades Toolbox Talk Series are 10-minute conversational huddles to help your team identify ways to improve processes, eliminate waste and adopt a Lean culture in the shop and field. Each Toolbox Talk session, released monthly, reviews a concept your members can use to create discussion, teach and grow their team’s understanding of Lean and determine how they can work more productively and collaboratively . Members can review the slide deck in an office or on a site, use the lesson to explain the concept, discuss the concept and use the printable handout to pass out as a tool to help implement positive change.

Western Specialty Contractors – Tulsa, Oklahoma Branch has received awards for Stone Restoration and Historical Restoration from the Associated General Contractors of Oklahoma (AGCOK) – Building Chapter.

The show pairs build and design experts to complete extreme, custom home renovations for deserving families who give back to their community.
Atlantic Constructors, Inc. (ACI), an AGC of Virginia member, is pleased to announce that Evan Shriver has been appointed to the position of chief executive officer. Most recently, he had been serving as executive vice president of construction operations at ACI. Art Hungerford, the company’s founding CEO, will transition to the role of chairman.
Industry EventsAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), from 2011 to 2015, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reported 220 total crane-related deaths, an average of 44 per year over this 5-year period with 42 percent of the fatal work injuries taking place in the private construction industry. The data also shows that specialty contractors and heavy and civil engineering construction accounted for the most fatalities involving cranes in private construction. AGC of America is pleased to offer this one-day training program based on OSHA standards and best practices to answer the need for quality training within the industry.
This is a one day course. At each location, it will be offered once or twice.
