Vegas is an exciting destination at the most mundane of times, but add in AGC’s 95th Annual Convention and CONEXPO-CON/AGG, and the city becomes downright thrilling. Nearly 2,800 attendees descended upon The Bellagio, March 3-6, 2014, for the association’s convention, which delivered education sessions, provided networking events, and launched several exciting initiatives – culminating in a jackpot of information and opportunities for attendees.

With the federal Highway Trust Fund projected to be unable to support any new highway, bridge or public transportation improvements in fiscal year 2015, the AGC co-chaired Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) recently launched a new national outreach campaign called "Hardhats for Highways." This campaign – which was launched in Las Vegas at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, one of the world’s largest construction trade shows, where more than 125,000 industry professionals gathered – is designed to help educate Congress about the connection between local jobs and federal highway and transit investment.

AGC annually participates in National Work Zone Awareness Week to highlight the dangers motorists not obeying speed limits or not staying alert in highway construction work zones pose for construction workers. This year's National Work Zone Awareness Week will take place April 6-12, 2014, with the theme "Work Zone Speeding - A Costly Mistake." To get a better handle on the impact of vehicle crashes at AGC member work sites, AGC has prepared a brief survey and encourages you to take a few minutes to complete it today. AGC will be releasing the survey results as part of Work Zone Awareness Week events. The deadline to complete this survey is Monday, March 31. Please click here to access the survey. AGC Houston recently announced the merger of its 401(k) multiple employer plan (MEP) with the Louisiana AGC’s 401(k) MEP – forming the AGC Southwest Chapters 401(k) Plan – which was officially signed Friday, Feb. 28, 2014.

Member News
 Batson-Cook Construction, an AGC Georgia and Austin Chapter-AGC member, is currently building a new $48-million addition to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan, Ga. The hospital, which was constructed by Batson-Cook and completed in 2012, will be upgraded with the addition of 121,000 square feet of new space and 30,000 square feet of remodeled space.

 C.W. Driver, an AGC of California member, has completed construction on the newly renovated Storm and Nasatir Halls complex at the San Diego State University (SDSU) campus. The project includes the 100,000-sq-ft renovation and 30,000-sq-ft expansion of the existing complex built in 1957. Designed by LPA Inc. and registered as LEED® Gold, the $73-million complex now offers program space with upgraded technologies for eight academic departments, faculty offices, and academic and research laboratories.
