Construction employment increased in 269 out of 358 metro areas between December 2016 and December 2017, declined in 43 and stagnated in 46, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released last week by AGC of America. Association officials said new infrastructure funding would help ensure firms continue to expand their headcount in 2018.

As the costs to resolve delays and disruptions on construction projects reach new heights, contractors can seek guidance from a white paper recently published by the AGC Delay and Disruption Task Force, a group comprised of 11 members appointed in 2016 by then-AGC President Mark Knight. The paper details the nature of the problem of delays and disruptions and practical ways to limit the scope. Knight’s goals were to raise awareness of the problem, to help everyone manage their ongoing risk of time-consuming and costly disputes, and to spur discussion of new and better ways of avoiding and resolving such disputes.

On Jan. 10, Moss, a South Florida Chapter-AGC and TEXO member, celebrated the groundbreaking of the $80 million Icon Central mixed-used development in downtown St. Petersburg. The upscale multifamily high-rise is being developed by Miami-based The Related Group and will include 368 residential units as well a total renovation of the 1926 Union Trust Bank building.

General contractor begins construction on first proton therapy center in AlabamaBrasfield & Gorrie, a member of multiple AGC chapters, recently joined Proton International and the University of Alabama at Birmingham to break ground on the first proton therapy facility in the state. The facility, Proton International at UAB, is expected to be ready to treat cancer patients in 2020.
