Construction employment increased by 5,000 jobs in November and by 282,000 jobs over the past year while the industry’s average pay continued increases and unemployment decreased to a historic low, according to an analysis of new government data by AGC of America. Association officials called on public officials to enhance career training and education and employment-based immigration reform to ensure an adequate supply of qualified workers.

On Nov. 1, 2018, members of AGC of America’s Union Contractors Steering Committee and other AGC leaders and staff held a lunch meeting with several leaders of the building trades in Washington, D.C. Participants discussed a variety of matters currently of concern to union contractors and labor.

The General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) designed the #excellenceisbuilding campaign to position the organization and its members as leaders who are creating and encouraging positive change for the city.

KAI Design & Build, an AGC of Missouri member, recently announced that it has acquired St. Louis-based Volk Construction Company, also an AGC of Missouri member, effective Oct. 1, 2018. The acquisition provides KAI’s clients with a greater pool of construction expertise and talent, and Volk’s clients with a greater depth of integrated design and construction solutions.

Over the course of a century, many businesses come and go, but one Connecticut construction company was built to last. What began in 1919 as the New Britain House Wrecking Company has become one of the top construction conglomerates in the Northeast. From creating casinos to decommissioning nuclear power plants, Manafort Brothers Inc., an AGC of Connectictut member, has changed the landscape of the state and beyond.

Sundt Construction, Inc., a member of multiple AGC chapters, celebrated the completion of the City of Mesa’s Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant at a dedication on Nov. 17. The $103.6 million water treatment plant treats Colorado River water supplied via the Central Arizona Project canal to drinking water standards.
