The construction fatality rate is declining faster in Texas than most other states according to a new analysis of federal safety data conducted by the AGC of America. Association officials noted that the state’s construction fatality and injury rates have declined, as many contractors have spent much of the past decade focusing on improving workplace safety.

A series of fast-paced, rapid-fire presentations engaged attendees and delivered rich content at the Spring 2013 BIMForum in Miami. The format of the conference, Pecha Kucha, limited each speaker to 20 slides within seven minutes, creating a reduction sauce of great content. AGC Federal & Heavy Construction Division and Highway & Transportation Division members launched an all-out offensive on the legislative front during April's Federal Contractors Conference in Washington, DC. As part of a series of organized Capitol Hill visits, AGC members provided their federal elected officials with information on a range of issues, including immigration, Water Resources Development Act reauthorization, the prevention of government-mandated project labor agreements, and implementation of the transportation reauthorization law, MAP-21, among others.

AGC Oregon Columbia Chapter supports Senate Bill 498 to continue to strengthen and expand state funding for vocational education programs. The bill that will accomplish this, Senate Bill 498, was approved unanimously by the Senate Education and Workforce Committee yesterday afternoon. This bill enjoys unprecedented support including all but a handful of legislators, Republicans and Democrats alike. AGC’s 2009 president, Andrew Beyer, was among a long line of supporters testifying on this bill.

Mark Russell has been named the new Associated General Contractors (AGC) Endowed Chair in Construction Management and Construction Engineering at the University of New Mexico.  PC Construction, an AGC of Vermont and a Carolinas AGC member, has started work on two new residence halls at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. that will house 180 students when completed in July 2014. The Res Tri Project consists of three residence halls, green space, landscaping and a promenade in the area bounded by Main Street, South Willard Street, Maple Street and Edmunds School on the 4.66-acre site.

Richardson will oversee Tarlton’s entire safety program.
