Advocacy
AGC of America, working closely with the AGC of Washington and member firm Atkinson, held a Dec. 5 media event in Seattle, Wash. on the threat of the "Fiscal Cliff." While announcing that the metro area added more new construction jobs during the past year than most cities, AGC released a new report detailing how construction firms would be hurt by the fiscal cliff. On Dec. 7, AGC also released an analysis of federal data indicating that construction employment declined by 20,000 jobs in November while the industry’s unemployment rate hit 12.2 percent.

Chapter News
AGC Nebraska Building Chapter recently announced the recipients of its 2012 Build Nebraska awards. The program is designed to recognize outstanding projects built by member firms. Projects were evaluated based on innovation in methods and materials, project management, client service, challenge of a difficult job and sensitive treatment of the environment and surroundings.

Costello Construction, a Maryland-based firm providing general construction services to public and private sector clients, is pleased to announce it has been selected by Montgomery County to build the new library in Silver Spring, Md. This 70,000 sq-ft, $35 million project is expected to meet the unique needs of an increasingly urban, ethnically and culturally diverse residential and business community of Montgomery County.

Upon successfully completing Phase One, Suffolk Construction has been selected to manage construction on Phase Two of The Homes at Old Colony redevelopment project in South Boston. The $50 million project will feature demolition of 223 distressed units and construction of 169 affordable rental units located in four three-story townhouse-style buildings and two four-level elevator buildings.
