Join leading contractors from across the country for the 2019 AGC Annual Convention happening April 1-4, 2019 in Denver. The AGC Convention is where successful general and specialty contractors develop the business intelligence, industry insights and key connections to help their companies thrive.

Construction employment increased by 5,000 jobs in November and by 282,000 jobs over the past year while the industry’s average pay continued increases and unemployment decreased to a historic low, according to an analysis of new government data by AGC of America. Association officials called on public officials to enhance career training and education and employment-based immigration reform to ensure an adequate supply of qualified workers.

On Nov. 1, 2018, members of AGC of America’s Union Contractors Steering Committee and other AGC leaders and staff held a lunch meeting with several leaders of the building trades in Washington, D.C. Participants discussed a variety of matters currently of concern to union contractors and labor.

 

We have been here before, in the not-too-distant past actually. Those that can recall the real estate boom in the 2004-2008 years might be seeing the same model developing, or maybe it has already developed in your area: The buyout meeting that doesn’t begin with ’Have you covered the scope, bid per plans and specs?’ but begins with ‘We are buying schedule and contract, do you have the men or equipment available?’

By 2017, coverage of Philadelphia’s building boom ranged from excitement for new construction, to concerns about development and gentrification, to the rising costs of construction, to the industry’s place and role in the city’s culture. The General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) designed the #excellenceisbuilding campaign to position the organization and its members as leaders who are creating and encouraging positive change for the city.

KAI Design & Build, an AGC of Missouri member, recently announced that it has acquired St. Louis-based Volk Construction Company, also an AGC of Missouri member, effective Oct. 1, 2018. The acquisition provides KAI’s clients with a greater pool of construction expertise and talent, and Volk’s clients with a greater depth of integrated design and construction solutions.

Over the course of a century, many businesses come and go, but one Connecticut construction company was built to last. What began in 1919 as the New Britain House Wrecking Company has become one of the top construction conglomerates in the Northeast. From creating casinos to decommissioning nuclear power plants, Manafort Brothers Inc., an AGC of Connectictut member, has changed the landscape of the state and beyond.

Sundt Construction, Inc., a member of multiple AGC chapters, celebrated the completion of the City of Mesa’s Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant at a dedication on Nov. 17. The $103.6 million water treatment plant treats Colorado River water supplied via the Central Arizona Project canal to drinking water standards.
