Yesterday morning AGC of America and Willis Towers Watson honored 59 construction firms at the Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) breakfast —where camaraderie wins over competition and people over projects. As AGC president Art Daniel mentioned at the start of the ceremony, "There’s nothing proprietary about safety." Keeping the spotlight on construction workers coming home safely every night is important, said Bill Noonan of Willis Towers Watson, the sponsor of the safety awards program, and that’s what the CSEA program does. Eighteen firms received third-place honors, there were 20 second-place winners and 21 first-place award recipients. From the first-place winners, the "best of the best" or grand award winner was selected. The 2018 recipient is Rosendin Electric, based out of San Jose, California.

On Tuesday morning at the highly anticipated and well-attended construction outlook session, AGC staffers Ken Simonson, Matt Turkstra, Jimmy Christianson, Mike Kennedy and Brian Turmail, along with CEO Steve Sandherr, gave the audience a comprehensive industry rundown. From a snapshot of the economy to AGC’s work on the tax bill — from an update on the administration’s infrastructure plan to concerns over discrimination, it's clear AGC has been hard at work and continues to keep its finger on the pulse of any and all issues affecting the construction industry.

Zydeco bands. Po-boys. Jazz music. Jambalaya. Dancing. Floats. Entertainers. These represent just a small part of the big gala AGC held Tuesday evening at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans. Party goers walked among the breathtaking, intricate and massive floats used in Mardi Gras parades. From there, they followed the music: a jazz band outside with the Mississippi River as its backdrop, a Zydeco band inside with a busy dance floor, a singer and a pianist playing upstairs to a small room for those who enjoyed a more intimate setting. But no matter where the music led, there was food from raw oyster bars to banana fosters to crawfish and more. What a night in New Orleans!
