Artistic Iron Works created this beautiful residential stair and landing guard and handrail from 304 stainless steel, finished to a #8 mirror polish. The pipe rail is 1-1/4", and the pre-polished plate infill is 1/4", water jet cut to design, rolled to match the necessary curves, then re-polished, including all of the cut edges. Since the stairs were built by the framers, there were some inconsistencies that needed to be addressed, including measuring and fitting to site conditions without the help of any drawings or true radii. The team worked hard to get the design and geometry just right on the stairs in order to ensure code compliance and a fluid design – a time-consuming process, to say the least. But the most tedious aspect of the project came at the end: the finishing. Everything is polished to a true mirror finish, with no grain left at all.
