Being accustomed to smaller forged projects, this stair project was among the most challenging that Art's Work has taken on. Adding to this challenge, what started as a CAD visualization evolved over time as the company got into the project, and they were pushed to the max with limited resources.
The outer stringer of this stair is 5/8″ aluminum plate rolled by an outside vendor to their specs. The outer stringer came in 5 rectangular curved pieces, and the inner in 3.
The main difficulty was that each plate varied ever so slightly and cutting out the diagonal parts with no laser equipment, just tapes, squares and freehand, was no easy task. The team fabricated the entire stair in their shop, then cut it apart in three pieces and transported it to the job site. There was no room for lifting equipment, so they used manual jacks to set it in place, and then fully welded all stringer seams and treads, keeping an eye on warpage.
Sanded, primed, painted with 2 part urethane, and deemed "Spectacular!" by the client. Kudos to the entire Art's Work Unlimited team on their beautiful work!
