This turtle-shaped structure is the rally point for a University football team before entering the field of cheering fans! Working closely with the architect, Shickel Corp refined and finalized the complex design. The build comprises a structural internal frame with (13) top and (25) lower three-dimensional facets from sheet material. All structural welded connections were finished to NOMMA #3, with all exposed surfaces finished to NOMMA #1. Next to the design, another challenge was the specified multi-coat and multi-color coating system. The intricate structure was designed in modular sections to be bolted together in the field to avoid damaging the coating. It was fully shop assembled, disassembled for finishing, shipped to the site with 10 semi-loads of material, and reassembled onsite. The overall structure measures 21’ tall x 33’ wide and 45’ long.
