From the Desk of Cristina Rodriguez, NOMMA Director, Operations

COVID-19 has changed the landscape of our nation. The effects are impacting all of us as we adjust to a “new normal.” It is important to remember that you are not alone.

I know many of our members are struggling, especially those in states hit hardest by the virus. NOMMA is here to support you. We are actively monitoring the information provided by the government to share the most relevant updates and resources for you and your business.

Now, more than ever, it is an important time to belong to an association. NOMMA is committed to being an industry leader, and will continue to deliver value to our members by expanding our digital education offerings.

We know members and industry professionals are overwhelmed with information and need help navigating the new federal programs like the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). We are scheduling webinars to address these topics and encourage your participation.

During this challenging time, it is important to remain positive and lean on your industry peers. Explore opportunities to share work with fellow NOMMA members. Take time to evaluate your business operations and seek strategies that will strengthen your adaptability. If business has slowed and you have the necessary equipment, consider shifting your operation to develop critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as face shields and surgical masks, for first responders.

I encourage you to visit our COVID-19 Updates page on the NOMMA website to review the valuable information on the Paycheck Protection Program, SBA loans, making PPE, and more. Finally, don’t hesitate to reach out to the NOMMA staff by phone at 888-516-8585 or email at info@nomma.org with questions or to provide feedback. Stay Strong!

The NOMMA staff is pleased to announce a new addition to our team. Summer Beday started with NOMMA in mid-March to manage membership and chapters. Summer has extensive experience working with associations, and is excited to deliver outstanding service and return on investment to our members.

If you have questions regarding your NOMMA membership or feedback, please contact Summer at 888-516-8585 or via email at summer@nomma.org.

NOMMA and the American Fence Association (AFA) are partnering to host this special webinar, presented by Mark Schiavone, on Thursday, April 16 at 3:00pm Eastern / 2:00pm Central. The Member Savings Program (MSP) assists NOMMA & AFA members to increase profitability.

Leveraging the collective volume of 35 trade associations, the MSP is able to help small and medium sized members cut costs on many indirect expenses such as insurance, gasoline, shipping, tools, facility supplies & equipment, consumer financing, uniforms, and over 30 additional services. Members who engage with the MSP can save enough to pay for their association dues many times over each year.

The combination of a demanding builder and a difficult architect delayed this stair from going in on schedule. When the green light was given for Compass to begin work, the entire team put in overtime to complete the project - and then the client requested rework that required them to take the entire stair out. The process was challenging from start to finish, but Compass never lost its professoinalism, attention to craftsmanship, or patience with its client. The results: a beautiful stair, a satisfied client - and a Top Job award.

On a yearly basis, viruses, bacteria, moulds and other microbial agents affect countless millions of people. Right now, we are battling a tough global virus opponent - COVID-19. Did you know that copper-based alloys are an historically effective solution for killing yeasts, viruses and bacteria? They have strong microbial properties that have been shown to destroy norovirus, antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria, strains of E. coli, and more. They may even be an ally in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NOMMA Career Center
The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced on March 21, 2020 that the federal tax filing deadline will be extended to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers do not need to file additional forms, or contact the IRS, in order to qualify for the extension.

According to the announcement on IRS.gov, the deferment applies to all taxpayers, including: individuals, corporations, non-corporate tax filers, estates and trusts, and anyone who pays a self-employment tax.

If individuals require additional time to file their taxes past the July 15 deadline, they can request this extension by filing form 4868. Business can also request an extension past the July 15 deadline by filing form 7004. Both forms can be submtited through a tax professional, with tax software, or by using the IRS's Free File option at IRS.gov.

Although the deadline has been extended to July 15, the IRS encourages taxpayers to file as soon as they are able, as most tax refunds are still being issued within 3 weeks.

Additionally, many states are also following the new July 15 tax extension deadline, although some have rules and guidelines that are different. Find your state's deadline here.
