Gold: Compass Ironworks
Title of Entry: Artistic Foyer Railing Material: Steel construction with a polished bronze caprail Finish: Powder-coat and wax Total Labor Hours: 566
This complex project began when Compass Ironworks was approached by an interior designer with an artistic design for a foyer railing. The project was for a rather discriminating client who was drawn to the use of diverse bar thicknesses and "flow" interruptions. Their vision was for the railing to present different appearances, depending on the angle from which it was viewed.
The fabrication was tough. The client selected 1/4 x 1 1/2" flat bar for the railing infill, contemporary bronze caprail, and 3" diameter posts with custom machined bronze caps. For the flat bar infill, each piece was radiused differently - once or several times each. Adding to the already-challenging process, the curved portions at the bottom of the staircase had to be radiused longitudinally and curved laterally - without any distortion. The variation in design required heroic effort to achieve, but in the end, the staircase was a stunning success.

Your business has what cyber criminals want.
As a metals industry company, you may think your products and services don’t merit the attention of a cybercriminal – after all, don’t those people usually go after banks, high-profile investment firms, big tech companies, and the like?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what industry you’re in; cyber criminals want your information to monetize it and sell it on the dark web. They want to hold you ransom for money, and any business has money to lose, regardless of the industry in which it operates.
In our July/August issue of O&MM Fabricator, we hear from Richard Gaynor and David Gaynor of Middleton & Company Insurance, who offer tips for identifying and preventing cybersecurity attacks.
