Gold: BELT
Title of Entry: An Outstanding Piece Inspired by Nature Material: Aluminum Finish: Patina Total Labor Hours:3000

The design for this incredible project is inspired by the majestic peacock: symbol of beauty, glory, immortality and wisdom. BELT created a main entrance of hand-forged aluminum with patina finish for vehicle access, and two doors for pedestrian access. The colorful tail of the male and the eye-shaped drawings connect with the vital and eternal cycle of nature. BELT combined characteristics such as the variety of colors and captivating charm of the peacock shape to bring the complex work of art to life.
The team overcame some unique challenges during the project. The biggest design hurdle was meticulously recreating the splendor of a peacock body and tail in the surface of a double gate framed in structural aluminum and all solid bars flats. They also had to install coring through heavy, thick coral stone into concrete.
The techniques used throughout the manufacturing process were all handcrafted casting, forging repoussé riveting finished to perfection in aluminum. The results: out of this world.

The Small Business Administration is working to streamline and modernize its loans process. The SBA announced that starting August 1, it will begin assessing whether businesses are eligible for agency loans – a task that traditionally falls to financial institutions, who assume the risks of determining a borrower's eligibility. The long-term goal is to expand access to capital for entrepreneurs, and give a boost to small-dollar lending. The administration also said it will be introducing new technology to help verify applicants' information.
