A special thanks to everyone who participated in the NEF Live Auction. There was electric energy in the room as attendees raised their paddle high creating a bidding war over several sought-after items. NEF’s auctioneer, Roger Carlsen, kept the crowd entertained and the bids going up totaling over $27,000.
In addition to that, NOMMA members donated $12,650 in tax-deductible contributions. The proceeds from the auction and the donations help NEF to support education programs and services for the ornamental and miscellaneous metals industry. This includes providing grants to chapters or NOMMA members who want to host an educational program and covering the expense of education session recordings at METALfab.
NEF is also committed to addressing the needs of skilled labor for the industry. NEF will be identifying an educational institution that is training our future workforce with plans to support that institution with a financial contribution.
We thank everyone who contributed. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, use the “DONATE NOW” button below.

At the Awards Dinner, a new NOMMA Leadership Award was announced. This award is to be presented in a unique circumstance to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to NOMMA.
This year’s award was presented to Mike Workman. Mike enjoyed a long career in the ornamental and miscellaneous metals industry. He joined NOMMA in 2015 and was active in volunteering, joining the Board of Directors in 2018. In 2020, Mike accepted an officer position.
Mike greatly contributed to the board of directors. He took his position and commitment seriously. Mike assumed the role of NOMMA President at the annual meeting at METALfab 2023. He was, unfortunately, unable to serve his term due to illness and he passed away on March 23, 2023.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mike Workman was a loving husband of nearly forty-one years to his beloved Carole Joyner Workman, who survives him. He was a devoted father to two daughters and one son and a cherished "Pop Pop" to his granddaughters.
Please join us in recognizing the NOMMA Leadership Award winner, Mike Workman.

Congratulations to Shickel Corporation, NOMMA's 2024 Mitch Heitler Award for Excellence winner! The company took home the coveted award for its intriguing pavilion submitted under Category N – Structural and Miscellaneous.
Check out some of the details below.
Category N — Structural and Miscellaneous Gold: Shickel Corporation Title of Entry: Field House Materials: W beams, HSS members, a 36 plate, and 5052 aluminum sheet Finish: Sherwin Williams performance coating Total Labor Hours: 4800
Shickel Corporation created this turtle-shaped structure as the rallying point for the University of Maryland's football team before entering the field. The company collaborated closely with the project's architect to finalize the complex design, comprised of a structural internal frame with 13 top and 25 lower three-dimensional facets from sheet material.
A significant challenge for all involved was getting the specified multi-coat and multi-color coating system the right shade and matching throughout. All structural connections were welded and finished with NOMMA #3, and exposed surfaces were finished with NOMMA #1.
Shickel Corp. created the intricate structure in modular sections so that it could be carried to the field and bolted together without damaging the coating.
Now, U of Maryland athletes can sprint through an incredible turtle shell pavilion to be greeted by cheering fans on the football field – and it doesn't get much better than that.
