Gold: Gallant Metalworks
Title of Entry: Reception Desk Designed by: Designer Material: Steel Finish: Patina, gilders paste, powder coat Total Labor Hours: 500
This impressive reception desk was designed to be the central piece for a new downtown building's lobby. The rolling and undulating metal front of the thirty-two-foot-long masterpiece wraps around a granite and wood desk where the building administration are staffed.
The designer's vision was to match a specific existing bronze color, so the Gallant Metalworks team conducted extensive research to find the right tone. They also had to identify the right solution to create a tough and durable piece with a seamless look.
Every panel was formed by hand and on rollers, and the piece involved over a hundred feet of TIG welding – all peened, ground and blended so that not a single hint of welding was visible in the finished work.
