Liz is a native Texan who was raised just outside of Houston. Today, Liz and her husband reside in Dallas. Liz began her college career at the University of Texas at Austin and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Houston. She joined the nonprofit association world in 1991 and fell in love with making a difference for members every day.

She has served as the managing editor for a medical journal, directed membership recruitment and retention activities, developed websites and online communities, led fundraising initiatives and has previously served as an executive director. Most recently, Liz worked for a large professional organization serving petroleum engineers.

Liz describes herself as a servant-leader by nature and delights in being able to exercise this philosophy fully at NOMMA. "While traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power, the servant leader shares power, puts the needs of others first, and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible," stated Liz. "I look forward to getting to know members and volunteers better as we roll up our sleeves and work side-by-side to elevate NOMMA’s services and programs in ways that cause our industry to view our members and association as the primary resource for metalworking."

The UMWC/NEF have committed to provide a reimbursement of up to $1,000.00 to the one person to whom the

Category M: Stairs Complete - Residential

To enter this category, the majority of the stair must be of metal construction and installed in or on private residence.

Gold Winner:

Compass Ironworks
Gap, Pennsylvania

This stair project was designed by the fabricator and was galvanized and powder-coated steel. According to Compass Ironworks, this project was a challenge like no other, particularly with the install because they couldn’t crane through the roof. Not only did the second stair have to clear the floors it attached to once in the well, it also had to clear a massive header. It took an extra three days of work to get the second stair into place with a special carrier. All the railing was stainless, and the Compass Ironworks crew got a serious crash course in creating difficult radii on round bar.

"The stair railing with the horizontal rod created a nightmare of a challenge as the client wanted the sweeping transition everywhere. To create all the smooth transitions horizontally and vertically with the correct radii and space to be visually pleasing was a feat that made us quite happy. The initial request was for completion by Christmas, we managed Easter. The client brags that these stairs are unlike anything else in the world."

At nearly 40 million square feet of construction starts so far, the first half of 2017 has easily surpassed total office starts for all of 2015 and is running ahead of the pace of last year's cyclical peak of 76 million square feet. In Chicago alone, 10 office and residential projects valued at $1 billion or greater are under construction or in the development pipeline.

Many of these projects are large mixed-use developments near the urban core that include significant portions of multifamily, retail and entertainment, while others, like Chicago's 94-story Vista Tower, are standalone residential and hotel projects.

Here's a quick snapshot of several significant high-rise developments under construction in large downtown markets across the U.S.

On June 27th 2017, one construction worker died and another was hospitalized after being struck by lightning on a jobsite in south Florida. Here's how to stay safe from lightning strikes and protect yourself and your co-workers.

This tragic incident is proof that lightning is often overlooked as an occupational hazard. However, lightning strikes kill around 50 people a year, many of them are workers who might not realize they are at-risk. Employers need awareness about lightning hazards to ensure their workers’ safety. Employees should learn where you should go to seek shelter plus the locations, objects and materials you should avoid during thunder and lightning storms.
