In the belly of the NOMMA membership the Upper Midwest Chapter held its Fall chapter meeting on October 12, 2019. The chapter meeting was hosted by Foreman Fabricators in St. Louis, MO. As an NEFPRO event had been held nearby the day before, several guest from other parts of the country were able to attend.

As with any chapter meeting, business was conducted - but not with the exclusion of some amazing demos. Demonstrations were presented by Sculpt Nouveau, Architectural Iron Design and CAD software by Mark O’Malley. But the excitement didn’t end there. Milkwaukee Tools along with area distributor, Tonnies Hardware of Albers, IL, discussed new tools and offered great deals to attendees at their booth.

The day wrapped up with Foreman Fabricator employees demonstrating the laser, brake press and polishing equipment utilized in their shop. Anthony Goodings of Wagner Companies explained a few of their glass railing and lighted rail products.

Whether you are in the Upper Midwest area or any other part of the country, it’s important to get involved with your chapter. Connect with people in your area and learn about the latest techniques.

The next UMC meeting will be held on January 25, 2020.

The U.S. has delayed a previously scheduled October tariff increase, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin recently noted that China and the U.S. have a "fundamental understanding" on some key issues. However, there is still the possibility of a mid-December rise in tariffs if a deal cannot be reached soon.

A full 42% of the cases are due to corruption, including bid-rigging, kickbacks, bribery, and bad under-the-table deals. Reduce your risk of being a victim of fraud by paying attention to these red flags, and following these basic procedures at your company.
