Featured Top Job Contest Winner
Gold: Maynard Studios Title of Entry: Barn 8 Materials: Steel and Bronze Finish: V10 Tnemec 1029 Topcoat Total Labor Hours: 8,000
This project required approximately 163 linear feet of "Estate Fence" with wisteria vines forged from solid stock and bronze wisteria flowers. The flowers were made from dozens of forged bronze petals strung on stainless steel cable, allowing them to be free hanging and blow in the breeze. The event space needed a railing for occupancy, but there wasn’t enough time to do the fencing and the vines. To resolve the challenge, Maynard Studios designed the fence to allow removal of the horizontals, which enabled them to get the fence placed in time for the venue opening, and then focus on the vines in the shop. Mock-ups of the fence were used to build the vines around. These were then disassembled, vine removed, reassembled, and another vine created. Once done, Maynard Studios returned to the site, unbolted and removed the horizontals, dropped the vines in place and anchored, and then the horizontals were re-installed. In the end, everything looked like it had been there the whole time. To learn more about Maynard Studios, and to view more of the company's signature work, visit www.maynardstudios.com.
