On February 2, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) reintroduced “Protect America's Children from Toxic Pesticides Act” (PACTPA), as part of a block of legislation collectively known as S. 269. PACTPA aims to rollback preemption, allowing small municipalities to regulate pesticides, causing businesses to know the individual regulations on every pesticide in every single jurisdiction a company operates in. The legislation is also proposing a neonicotinoid ban; However, the structural pest control industry has a nominal effect on pollinator health considering the potential of exposure is unlikely. NPMA is working on formulating a strategy, but upon initial review, Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) is not a cosponsor. We will be working to keep Sen. Padilla off the bill, and to limit any additional cosponsors. We will update our members as we develop our next steps and continue to track this legislation. In the meantime, reach out with any questions!
